Where to start?!

I've decided to make this blog after finding reading about other peoples journeys in BLW really useful. Baby Morgan was born in June this year weighing eight pounds, nine and a half ounces and has continued to grow rapidly! He is now five months old and got his first tooth at four and a half months. I found out about BLW before Morgan was born and was quite intrigued - for a good overview the Wikipedia site gives a nice summary.

I started thinking about it again recently after Morgan began showing a real interest in food. For example he really enjoys watching us eat and makes goldfish like faces mimicking us chewing!!! He loves trying to get his hands in my dinner and tracks food with his eyes at any opportunity. As he got his tooth so early I had to buy him a baby toothbrush and his favourite thing is brushing his tooth!! He gets a really good hold of the toothbrush and seems to really enjoy exploring his mouth with it and giving it a good chomp!

After a few weeks of this behaviour (and getting fed up of him drooling with hungry eyes every time we were eating) I tried him with a little bit of mushed up banana on a spoon. He couldn't get enough of it but he was desperate to hold the spoon and have a go himself. This reminded me of BLW so after refreshing my memory I have (over the last couple of weeks) now tried him on the following foods: carrot, apple, pear and lemon all cut into big wedges so that he can hold it himself and have a go at eating! Interestingly lemon was the thing he was mad for and kept ramming it in his mouth even though it kept making his little face scrunch up!!! When we took it off him he wriggled and squiggled like mad to try and get it back off the table and into his little hands!!! His least favourite seemed to be pear which kept making him gag! At the moment he's still a bit too small for a high chair so I've been sitting him in a wire baby chair or his bumbo. The cover on the wire chair needs cleaning already though. Warning for anyone contemplating starting this .... it's very messy but lots of fun!!!! Here he is taking a break from eating and reading the baby equivalent of a paper. (Oh yes and I know - safety first - bad Mummy - totally not meant to stand the bumbo on the table - but I promise I was very close by!)
